Rev. Usuki has been conducting study classes every Thursday afternoon from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The topics have varied, but most recently Tannisho was covered in detail. As we began to hear more and learn a little, more questions arose. Shinran and our sensei have much to offer and we perhaps had better start hearing what they have been saying!
The class is an interesting group sharing the common bond of being students of the Dharma. There’s a young lady, new to Buddhism, who takes her lunch break at 1 p.m. so that she can attend the class. There’s a non-Buddhist who attends because she’s interested in religion. A world traveling gentleman attends the classes when he’s in town. Another interesting occasional attendee is Jeff Wilson. Jeff is a PhD candidate working on his dissertation, but because of his humble mien, he comfortably blends in with the rest of the class.
Rev. Usuki always welcomes questions and participation. The classes are planned but he doesn’t hesitate to change direction if an interesting question or subject arises. No one can accuse Rev. Usuki of being stiff and formal.
Future topics to be covered are the Gobunsho and Jodo Shinshu sutra. Please come and join the class. You will be happy you did.
